Monsignor Newton’s legacy as a man of great wisdom and compassion is evidenced by the many social reforms he established through his parish and throughout Elyria. It was perhaps, however, his vision for a Catholic high school designed to educate and inspire the Catholic teens of the Elyria District to carry on the work of Jesus Christ that continues to have the greatest impact.
Over the past 65 years as tuition rose, alumni, parents and friends continued to support Elyria Catholic by their financial support and service for a mission they believed would provide teens with an outstanding religious, academic, and extracurricular education. Tuition at Elyria Catholic is approaching $7,500. Over 40% of the current students receive tuition assistance with an average grant of $1,100. These grants are funded by a combination of endowment income, private donations, the Elyria Catholic Fund, and scholarships established by individuals, families, parishes, and various organizations.
