Elyria Catholic is proud to be partnering with Microsoft Philanthropies TEALS (Technology Education and Literacy in Schools) to bring computer science courses to our high school. You can view more details about TEALS at
http://www.tealsk12.org
The TEALS program helps high schools grow its computer science program with support from industry professionals. The TEALS program recruits and trains, mentors, and places passionate technology professionals into high school classes as volunteer instructors to team teach.
Elyria Catholic alum, Jake Taylor ’04, the Regional Director of TEALS, is looking forward to introducing his alma mater to the program, which includes SNAP! an approachable visual block-based programming language with a robust tool set. This program will enable our students to code and create their own gaming projects. In addition, our students will be utilizing Python, text-based programming and Sounds in Python, for music-based projects.
In its continuing effort to Move Elyria Catholic Forward, EC is excited to offer the TEALS program, which will prepare our students for future careers in computer science. Just 7% of college graduates of STEM are in computer science, yet 71% of all new jobs in STEM are in computing.
