As an Elyria Catholic student, Efrain Torres says some of his best memories came from in the hallways with his friends or on the football field.
One of the most important lessons he learned came from Coach Shek. “Hard work and no excuses. Coach Shek used to say that an excuse was an admission to failure and I still repeat that.”
After graduating in 1983, Efrain went right into the Army. He served from 1983-1986. He knew during his junior year of high school he wanted to take a different route than college, and enlisting was the best option for him.
Once out of the Army, Efrain began working with his father who had at the time just opened his own IGA grocery store
It was there that he met his wife of 30 years, Amy. Together they have two children, Alexis, 29, and Armando, 27.
After working with his dad for six years, Efrain became a police officer for the city of Lorain where he would work for 30 years. He recently retired and currently resides in Lorain with his wife.
