HOBY – Summer 2022
Over the summer I had the opportunity to attend the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Seminar. The four days I spent with the other 200+ incoming juniors from the northwestern parts of Ohio were the best days of my summer. I met some fantastic people, listened to people get to talk
about what they are genuinely passionate about, and experience the life of what HOBY really is. The amount of staff and volunteers that are so passionate about teaching leadership and spreading their ideas at this seminar is really inspiring. HOBY has taught me that even though we are young and may think we can’t change the communities around us, we can. HOBY has given me hope that we can change the way we live in the communities around us. The people I met at HOBY will truly be with me forever. I met the kindest, most compassionate, and most lively people at HOBY. I will forever be grateful for the experience and carry it with me forever.
HOBY Leadership Conference is an overnight conference for sophomores held in the summer.
This is an amazing opportunity for students to build leadership skills with their peers. Each year Elyria Catholic sends 2 sophomores to attend the conference. Students must apply by writing an essay about why they would like to go and how they could benefit from the conference. Essays will be reviewed by a committee of teachers/staff and chosen based on their essay. Onestudent will receive a full scholarship to attend this conference and another student will receive a partial scholarship for this conference. We encourage all sophomores who are interested in building their leadership skills to apply.
