I am currently a student at Miami University in Ohio expected to graduate Magna Cum Laude this coming May with a BA in French Language and Literature, as well as a BA and an MA in Spanish Linguistics and Literature. I have recently accepted a position at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a fully-funded doctoral candidate in Hispanic Linguistics, one of the best programs in the country. Over the next 5 years, I will be working towards the completion of my doctorate under some of the most renowned linguists in the field while teaching at the university level. I had shared this news with Mr. Brown because he was my first true mentor in my field of study. The language department at Elyria Catholic, specifically Mr. Brown, helped me to create a strong academic foundation that allowed me to successfully pursue some of the most rigorous language programs in the United States at the undergraduate and graduate level. Moreover, the language courses offered at Elyria Catholic ensured that I tested well beyond introductory course work during my freshman year. The department's emphasis on presentations and student collaboration was particularly important in ensuring success in my undergraduate and graduate language coursework, where student collaboration and presentations form the majority of final grades. I hope that this news will help to not only promote the language department at Elyria Catholic, but that it will also encourage students to pursue coursework in language beyond what is required for graduation at EC.
