The Panthers arrived in Madrid on Holy Thursday and stayed there until Easter Monday, when they left by train to Paris for the duration of their stay. The students found it interesting being in different surroundings where they had a chance to put their Spanish and French speaking skills to the test. The Panthers soon realized that using the language more often aided them in becoming more fluent throughout the week.
Enjoy reading some of the experiences our Panthers.
My favorite part of the trip was seeing the smaller cities because there was so much history to see. We visited several museums, churches, and cathedrals. We had the opportunity to watch a procession on Good Friday night in Madrid. Roads were blocked off to allow for those walking in the procession. We saw how reverent they were as they carried statues of Mary and Jesus, banners, crosses, and candles.

"The Europe trip was truly an amazing memorable experience that has greatly impacted me for the better. Not only was I able to immerse myself in the language that I have studied here at EC, but I was also able to apply the knowledge and events that I read and learned about in various history classes to real-life places and monuments. I learned so much about the world and also about myself. I loved visiting the historical sites and museums in both France and Spain. The art and culture within these two counties is truly beautiful and inspiring. This experience sparked my interest in learning more about the history of France and Spain. I truly urge others if they are given the choice to attend a trip such as this, to take advantage of this amazing learning opportunity because exploring the world has so much to offer and you never know what type of impact going to a foreign country will have on your view of yourself and the world."

“I really enjoyed being able to put into practice the language I had been studying for four years. Going on the trip provided me with a great boost of confidence that the education I received at EC has prepared me well for life. My favorite part of the trip was going swimming on the beach with my friends in San Sebastian.”

“It was an absolutely incredible experience. I got to become closer with my friends and made new ones in Spain. I was able to use French in many contexts to chat with people from France. I also feel like I gained a better knowledge of French culture. I experience more than I ever imagined I would have on this trip.”

We, the World Language Department at Elyria Catholic High School, believe in the importance of broadening the cultural and linguistic awareness of our students.
The study of a foreign language will liberate the Elyria Catholic student from a mono-linguistic and mono-cultural environment.
Through the development of concepts, attitudes and skills of the target language, the intellectual and social growth of the student will contribute to the building of human and Christian concerns that will lead to a more just and peace-filled world.
