This is the 6th year Elyria Catholic students have participated in the
Lorain County Homeless Stand Down at Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain. This year 8 of our students spent their day assisting wherever help was needed, but primarily in the store where participants can pick up a hat and gloves, socks, and a hygiene kit. Elyria Catholic organizes a sock drive (Socktober) every October to provide the socks for the store. Two of our students also gave manicures.
The Homeless Stand Down event provides homeless individuals, families, and veterans the opportunity to connect with different social services available in the area. While there, they enjoy 2 meals. They also have the opportunity for a haircut and manicure and to receive winter items in the store that will protect them from the elements.
