This morning Elyria Catholic gathered as a community to honor our Patroness, Our Lady of Grace, during our annual May Crowning. Leading the procession were seniors, Johnnie Shedrick Jr. and Farai Mvere who carried in our statue of Mary. Seniors Emma Basinski, Enise Ortiz, Ryan Mahaffey, Mary Navalinsky, and Ally Uhnak led the prayer service and Genevieve Zientarksi crowned Mary. Music Ministry led the community in hymns of praise to Mary.
Following the prayer service, Principal Suzanne Lester announced the recipients of the last Elyria Catholic pillar, the Pillar of Community Award. Teacher Christin Coughlin, Freshman Laura Johnson, Sophomore Christian Soltis, Junior Lauren Hahn, and Senior Kayleigh Connors received the honors.
Kari and John Hwang presented two of our juniors, with the Jakob Hwang '18 Memorial Scholarship, Peyton Essenmacher and Alyssa Nagel.
Additionally, President Annie Heidersbach awarded the Inaugural Frances T. Schuster Scholarship to the following students, incoming Freshman Noah Willit, Freshman Mitchell Perry, Sophomore Aj Schwanenberger, and Junior Isabelle Neiderst. We are grateful for the generosity of Kevin Krupelak ’77, who is making this scholarship possible. Kevin is a family friend of the Schusters who, as a child and young adult, was positively impacted by Frances, her steadfast faith, commitment to service, and loyalty to her family.
Congratulations to all of our recipients.
It is a Great Day to be a Panther!
