After 35 years in the classroom and retiring in 2014, Carrie Fritz returned to Elyria Catholic where she will help our students as a math tutor.
Carrie started her teaching career at Elyria Catholic after earning her Masters Degree in Education from Ashland University. In her last class at Ashland, she had to create a new idea to teach her students- this is where her ever popular “pop up” was born. A "pop up" was designed to explain one math problem, step by step, to help visualize how the problem was solved. Any student who took Carrie’s class knew their pop up had to be colorful, creative, and displayed on an 11x14 piece of poster board.
Before her return to EC, Carrie had served as a math tutor in her home to several students. Their parents encouraged her to see if her services were needed in the building.
What she’s most looking forward to working in a school again is interacting with the students and helping them understand, as this is what she enjoyed most as a full-time teacher.
“I enjoy tutoring math because I feel I can share a different way of understanding math concepts. I like to discuss material with students, not just present the material.”
Carrie hopes that her presence will allow students to truly understand different math concepts and lessen their math anxiety.
Outside of teaching and tutoring, Carrie spends her free time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Since retiring, she enjoys working in her flower beds, crafting, and baking.
Welcome back to EC, Carrie!
